The Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State, Mr. Joseph Eribo, formally received the officers on Thursday at the command headquarters in Ado-Ekiti. The cadet ASPs, who are products of the prestigious Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, represent the 7th Regular Course of the institution and were recently commissioned into service by the President of the Federal Republic.
This posting is more than a routine administrative exercise; it is a direct investment in the human resource foundation of the Ekiti Command. The Nigeria Police Academy’s rigorous training program, which spans five years and combines academic degree education with paramilitary and police training, is designed to produce a new generation of officers grounded in both theory and practice. The arrival of these 31 graduates signifies an infusion of contemporary policing knowledge, technological aptitude, and renewed idealism into the state’s security architecture.
Addressing the new officers, CP Eribo delivered a charge that went beyond ceremonial welcome, outlining the core ethos required for modern policing. He emphasized the non-negotiable pillars of discipline, professionalism, and integrity. In an era where public trust in law enforcement is paramount, Eribo’s directives carried profound weight. He explicitly urged the cadets to:
- Respect the Rights of Citizens: To police with consent and legitimacy, recognizing that their authority is derived from the people they serve.
- Adhere Strictly to Rules of Engagement: This is critical for accountability and for preventing escalations during operations, ensuring force is used proportionately and lawfully.
- Shun All Forms of Corruption: A clear mandate to build an ethical force, resisting the temptations that undermine public confidence and institutional effectiveness.
- Prioritize the Protection of Lives and Property: Reinforcing the fundamental mandate of the police as a service dedicated to public safety.
The CP also expressed his gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, for approving the deployment. He noted that this injection of additional manpower is a strategic necessity that will directly enhance the command’s operational capacity. For a state like Ekiti, this could translate into more robust patrol coverage, quicker response times to incidents, dedicated teams for specialized crimes, and a greater ability to conduct proactive, intelligence-led policing. The deployment aligns with broader national efforts to address police understaffing and improve the officer-to-citizen ratio.
In their response, the newly posted officers thanked the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force for the opportunity to serve. They pledged their commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and dedicated service, a promise that now faces the test of real-world application in the communities of Ekiti State.
The success of this deployment will ultimately be measured not by the ceremony, but by the tangible impact these 31 cadet ASPs have on the ground. Their integration into the command, mentorship by seasoned officers, and their adherence to the CP’s charge will determine whether this manpower boost translates into a lasting enhancement of security and justice for all residents of Ekiti State.
