The Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, has extended its heartfelt condolences to the management, staff, and listening community of Ibadan-based radio stations Splash FM 105.5 and Lagelu FM 96.7 following the sudden demise of their esteemed broadcaster, Mr. Kola Oladapo.

In an official statement released on Sunday, December 28, 2025, and signed by his Special Assistant on Print Media, Mr. Moses Alao, Governor Makinde described the loss as profoundly painful. The governor offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Oladapo’s soul and for divine strength for his immediate family, colleagues, and vast audience to bear the irreplaceable loss.

The late broadcaster, popularly known by his on-air moniker ‘Nice Guy,’ was a fixture in the Ibadan media landscape. His voice provided the soundtrack to mornings for countless residents, blending music, news, and relatable commentary. His passing, announced on Sunday morning, sent waves of grief through the state’s media and cultural circles. In accordance with Islamic rites, his remains were laid to rest on the same day.

This event highlights the critical yet often overlooked role of local broadcasters in shaping community identity and cohesion. Figures like Oladapo are more than just presenters; they are trusted companions, information conduits, and cultural custodians. Their sudden absence creates a palpable void, not just in a station’s lineup but in the daily rhythm of their listeners’ lives.

Governor Makinde’s prompt commiseration underscores the recognition of media professionals as vital stakeholders in societal development. In an era of digital fragmentation, terrestrial radio remains a powerful tool for grassroots engagement, public information dissemination, and preserving indigenous language and culture—a mission Oladapo evidently embodied throughout his career.

The loss serves as a sobering reminder of the need for sustainable support systems within the media industry. It prompts reflection on the welfare of veteran journalists and the importance of mentoring the next generation to uphold the standards of dedicated public service broadcasting that personalities like the ‘Nice Guy’ represented.
