Islamic scholar calls for govt. support to boost Quranic education

Ibadan,Dec.14,2025 (NAN) The Director of the Ali Institute for Quran Memorisation (AIQM), Ustaz Ali Abdussalam, has called on governments at all levels to support Quranic Islamic centres in the country to raise future pious and patriotic leaders.
Abdussalam gave the advice at the 5th graduation ceremony of complete Quran memorisation of the institute on Sunday in Ibadan.
He said that supporting the centres would help raise God‑fearing Nigerians who would be free of tribalism, terrorism and other vices negatively affecting Nigeria’s progress.
The director said that any individual with a balanced knowledge of the Quran and Islamic morals and values would not engage in any social vice.
Ali noted that society was getting more corrupt and children were being exposed to various vices through social media, adding that nurturing children with Islamic knowledge would greatly benefit the country.
“At our institute, we not only teach our students Quran memorisation, but also prepare them for life’s challenges morally, psychologically and spiritually.
“We want to change the world with people of good character,” he added.
He called on governments at all levels to provide an enabling environment for the teaching of virtues and morals alongside education for the betterment of the country.
The director, who noted that 160 Quran memorisers were graduating, said the institute had graduated 379 memorisers since 2019.
While testifying to the moral uprightness of the graduands, Ali said an alumnus of the institute, Muqaddis Kolawole, who is studying Artificial Intelligence Engineering at Cyprus International University, returned a lost wallet containing $2,500.
“We produce the likes of Muqaddis each time our students graduate, as we have today,” he said.
Abdussalam further called on the Federal Government to unravel the mystery in the fight against insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other crimes in Nigeria and to tackle the problem head‑on.
He said doing so would restore confidence in the government and make Nigeria great.
The Chairman of the Day, the Agbaoye of Ibadanland, Alhaji Kola Karim, commended the parents of the graduands and the institute’s director for imparting knowledge and morals to them.
Represented by one of his aide, Alhaji Yinka, Karim urged the graduands to continue being good ambassadors of Islam, which must be reflected in their characters at all times.
In his lecture, Sheikh Kamaldeen Abdulhamid urged the graduands not to see their graduation as the end but to continue updating their knowledge.
One of the parents of the graduands, Prof. Taofeek Yekini, commended the institute for its consistency in nurturing upright individuals, which parents had identified and are investing in.
Yekini called on parents to invest in both Islamic and Western education for their children to earn reward on earth and in the hereafter.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
