In a significant push to modernize its political infrastructure, a senior official in Nasarawa State has called for widespread participation in a pivotal digital exercise. Mohammed Muluku, the State Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, has issued a compelling appeal to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to actively engage in the party’s ongoing electronic membership registration drive.

The call was made during the official flag-off ceremony in Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area, an event presided over by the council’s Chairman, Mr. Iliya Aliyu, on Thursday. This initiative marks a critical transition from traditional, paper-based membership systems to a centralized digital database, a move that political analysts say could redefine party organization and strategy in the state.

Beyond a Simple Roll Call: The Multifaceted Goals of E-Registration

Commissioner Muluku framed the exercise as more than an administrative update. He positioned it as a direct response to the party’s governance record, stating that the APC administration had delivered tangible “dividends of democracy” across Nasarawa State. This assertion serves as the foundational argument for why members should participate: to validate and consolidate the party’s mandate through a show of organized, verifiable support.

The e-registration process is designed to achieve three core objectives:

  1. Revalidation of Existing Membership: To cleanse the party’s register, removing ghost or inactive members and ensuring that the listed membership reflects active, engaged individuals.
  2. Expansion and Inclusion: To streamline the process for new entrants wishing to join the APC, lowering barriers to entry ahead of future electoral cycles and political activities.
  3. Data-Driven Strategy: To generate a reliable, comprehensive, and searchable database. This digital asset is invaluable for targeted campaigning, resource allocation, understanding demographic strongholds, and planning grassroots mobilization.

“I want to use this opportunity to call on our people to embrace the APC membership e-registration exercise in the state,” Muluku urged. “The party has done well and is still doing well at both state and national levels.” He specifically pointed to the performance of Governor Abdullahi Sule, noting that his development projects “cut across all parts of the state,” and called for continued public support to ensure the success of these programs.

Financial Backing and Local Leadership Buy-In

To underscore the importance of the initiative, Commissioner Muluku demonstrated tangible support by donating ₦1 million to facilitate the smooth conduct of the e-registration process in the Nassarawa Eggon area. This financial commitment signals the exercise’s priority status within the party’s state apparatus.

Echoing the commissioner’s sentiments, Council Chairman Iliya Aliyu elaborated on the technical aspirations of the project. He described the goal of producing a “credible, accurate and error-free APC membership register,” moving away from the inconsistencies that often plague manual systems. Aliyu urged both existing members and prospective registrants to participate actively, framing the exercise not just as a party duty but as a vital activity for “personal and overall state development.”

The Bigger Picture: Digitalization as a Political Imperative

This move in Nasarawa reflects a broader trend across Nigerian politics, where parties are increasingly leveraging technology to build resilience and operational efficiency. A robust digital membership database mitigates internal disputes over delegate lists, enables direct communication with members, and provides auditable data that can strengthen the party’s position in both internal primaries and general elections. The success of this e-registration drive could serve as a model for other states, demonstrating how digital tools can be used to deepen political engagement and create a more accountable party structure.

The concerted effort by state commissioners and local government chairmen to champion this digital transition highlights a strategic recognition: in modern politics, data is not just information—it is power. The call from Commissioner Muluku is, therefore, a call to members to secure their place within the party’s future, which is being built one digital record at a time.
