Four communities in Enugu South LGA have written to the House of Representative to intervene and stop senselessness killings of their people in the interest of justice, order and peace.

Ndiaga, Umunenshi, Umuchimengwu, and Amechi Uwani Awkunana communities forwarded their petition against the killings of their people which was received by the House of Representatives on Thursday in Abuja.

It was laid before the House by Rep. Chimaobi Atu (LP-Enugu) at plenary on Thursday.

The petitioners alleged that the group murdering their people are obviously being shielded and their cases appear to have been swept under the carpet by the police for inexplicable reasons.

They alleged that there were some cases where arrests were made but the real murderers were intentionally overlooked.

They alleged that some innocent members of the community were hounded into custody and charged to court in a surreptitious effort to distract attention and circumvent the law.

“We are convinced that given your constitutionally guaranteed oversight functions, you have the capacity to intervene and call the police to order.

“And that you could ensure the police acted professionally within the ambit of the law, or be held liable for the consequences of their actions or inactions.

“We are therefore requesting that the parliament should come to our aid, speedily, in the interest of justice”, they said.

The Deputy Speaker, Rep. Benjamin Kalu, in his ruling, referred the matter to the House Committee on Petitions when constituted for further legislative actions.
